Changing the Story of Chronic Kidney Disease—One Meal, One Mindset at a Time
Nutrition is often the most overwhelming part of managing chronic kidney disease. There’s fear, confusion, and contradictory advice—but what if there were a different way? One rooted in clarity, compassion, and true empowerment?
As a Sandbox Professional Scholar, Vanessa Connolly is bringing that vision to life.
Managing chronic kidney disease (CKD) can feel like walking a tightrope—especially when the advice is vague, the food lists are confusing, and every bite feels like a gamble.
But what if kidney nutrition felt empowering, not paralyzing?
As a Sandbox Professional Scholar, Vanessa Connolly, RDN, CSR, LD, is making that vision a reality. Through her company, Grains & Green Kidneys, Vanessa offers a radically human, research-backed approach to CKD care—one that meets people where they are, and walks with them toward where they want to go.
In 2025, The Sandbox is proud to partner with Vanessa on a 4-month, 1:1 coaching program designed specifically for individuals living with CKD Stages 2–4. Through this fully funded initiative, selected award recipients will receive:
- Personalized nutrition coaching tailored to their unique labs, goals, and lifestyle
- Compassionate education (not scare tactics) about what foods actually support kidney health
- Clarity around phosphorus, potassium, protein, and more—without feeling restricted
- Ongoing support, visual tools, and practical strategies to feel better and live well
This program isn’t about perfection. It’s about real progress—and equipping people with the knowledge and confidence to take ownership of their health.
Because in The Sandbox, we believe when people are seen, supported, and equipped, impact compounds. And with Vanessa leading the way, we’re helping people with CKD write a stronger, more hopeful next chapter.
