Our newest signature event, “A Weekend of Believing℠”, was born out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Families, stuck inside and distanced from friends and family—and struggling without the consistent interaction, fellowship, and respite that our typical events and programs provide—were feeling isolated. We knew we had to do something! The Sandbox developed a partnership with The Westin Hilton Head Oceanfront hotel and designed a safe weekend for our families to get back what they were desperately missing: food, fun, fellowship, and rest. It was a huge success. Today, “A Weekend of Believing” continues as a special time for honorees and their families to leave their worries outside the hotel’s lobby doors, be treated like royalty, and create special memories with new and long-standing friends—memories that will last a lifetime!
An Evening of Believing Prom
An Evening of Believing Prom℠ was the first signature event of The Sandbox. This event is designed specifically for kids and teens with cancer or life-altering illnesses and their guests. It’s a night when the rigors of treatment and the pieces of chaotic lives lived under the umbrella of uncertainty take a back seat. On this night, Honorees can have one focus: Fun! With friends and family by their sides, our guests receive rock-star treatment, starting with “Try-On Day” where they select their prom attire. On the night of the event, they receive hair and make-up, a police escort, and a red-carpet arrival. Then it’s a night of food, fellowship, and dancing—traditionally a night they never forget. In its 10th year, An Evening of Believing Prom was put on hold with the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re currently celebrating through other, more socially-distanced events, such as The Sandbox Cookout and A Weekend of Believing℠. But we’re always assessing ways we might continue hosting this signature gala in the future!
