Volunteer Spotlight: Christmas in July

At The Sandbox, we believe that some of the biggest acts of kindness come from people simply showing up.

This Christmas in July, 24 incredible volunteers came together with one shared purpose: to Do Stuff That Matters.

Together, they packed 41 Blessing Bags for families served by the Levine Children’s Hospital Palliative Care Team. Every bag was filled to the brim with snacks, crafts, comfort items, gratitude journals, bookmarks, bubbles, and little reminders that even during life’s hardest moments, someone is thinking of them.

What made the day even more special was seeing our community come together across generations. Children, teens, parents, grandparents, friends, and community partners all worked side by side. Some folded, some packed, some tied ribbons, some made book marks, some colored postcards, and some simply showed up with willing hearts. Every role mattered, and every volunteer helped make these blessings possible!

At The Sandbox, we know that a community isn’t built by one person. It’s built by people who choose to care. People who give an afternoon to help someone they’ve never met. People who teach their children that serving others is just part of who they are.

To every volunteer who joined us, thank you. You didn’t just pack bags. You packed hope, encouragement, and love for families who needed it most.
